SurrogacyUK
Surrogacy is a life-changing journey, and at SurrogacyUK, we are committed to ensuring that all surrogates feel supported, informed, and valued. Our surrogate application process is designed to be inclusive while prioritising health, safety, and ethical surrogacy practices. Below, we outline our surrogate criteria and answer some frequently asked questions to help you determine whether surrogacy is the right path for you.
Surrogate Eligibility Criteria
Age
-
You must be at least 21 years old if you have already had children.
-
If you are child-free by choice, you must be at least 25 years old.
-
UK clinics will treat surrogates up to age 45, with some clinics accepting surrogates over 45 with GP support and additional consultation.
BMI Requirements
-
Ideally, your BMI should be within the healthy range, but it must not exceed 35 to ensure the best chance of a safe pregnancy.
Residency
-
You must be a UK resident. Unfortunately, we are unable to accept applications from individuals residing outside the UK.
Health, Wellness, and Emotional Wellbeing
-
Surrogates should be in good physical and emotional health to carry a pregnancy safely.
-
As part of our application process, you will complete a health and wellness assessment to ensure your ongoing well-being.
-
Every application is reviewed on a case-by-case basis, and we are here to support you through this process.
Clinic-Specific Considerations
-
Each UK fertility clinic operates slightly differently, meaning there is no universal list of disqualifying criteria.
-
Our experienced admissions panel reviews all applications and provides expert recommendations.
-
If an application is not progressed, it is a carefully considered decision, and feedback, along with support, will always be provided.
Consultation Support
-
If you have any concerns about your eligibility, our Surrogate Applications Coordinator is available for consultations to guide you through the process.

Yes, but you must be at least 25 years old if you have chosen to be child-free.

Each case is reviewed individually, but a BMI over 35 may impact clinic approval. If your BMI is close to the limit, we can provide guidance on how to meet the criteria.

This depends on the condition. Our admissions panel will assess each case individually and provide guidance based on medical advice.

If an application is not progressed, we provide feedback and support to help you understand the reasoning and explore possible options.
5. Can I be a surrogate if I am single?
Yes, relationship status does not impact eligibility.
6. Can I be a surrogate if I have had a C-section?
Yes, but we may require additional medical clearance depending on your history.
