Surrogate Charter

At SurrogacyUK, we believe that surrogates deserve to feel informed, respected, supported and valued.

That’s why we’ve created our Surrogate Charter – a set of commitments that guide everything we do.

Whether you’re simply curious about surrogacy or you’re ready to begin your journey, these are the standards you can expect from us.

We respect your choices:

Choosing to become a surrogate is one of the biggest personal decisions you can make. We believe that decision should always be yours. Whether you’re deciding if surrogacy is right for you, when the time feels right, or who you’d like to undertake a journey with, we’ll provide information, guidance and support but we’ll never make those decisions for you.

At SurrogacyUK, we believe that every surrogate should feel empowered to make decisions that are right for her.

That starts long before a journey begins.

Some women join us because they know they want to become a surrogate. Others join simply because they’re curious and want to find out more. Both are equally welcome.

There is no expectation that joining SurrogacyUK means you have to undertake a surrogacy journey. We encourage you to learn, ask questions, meet other members and take as much time as you need before deciding whether surrogacy is right for you.

If you do decide to become a surrogate, you’ll continue to make the decisions that matter to you. We don’t match surrogates with intended parents, and we don’t tell you who you should journey with. Instead, we create opportunities for friendships to develop naturally, giving you the time and space to decide whether someone is the right fit.

Our role is to provide honest information, share our experience and support you in making informed decisions.
Because the best surrogacy journeys begin with a surrogate who feels confident that every important decision has been her own.

We protect your bodily autonomy:

Your body. Your healthcare. Your pregnancy. Your decisions. Always.
Respecting bodily autonomy is fundamental to everything we do. We’ll support you with information and guidance, but every decision relating to your body remains yours.
Respect for bodily autonomy is one of the foundations of ethical surrogacy.

At SurrogacyUK, we believe that every surrogate should remain in control of decisions about her own body throughout her journey.

That means your healthcare decisions remain yours.

Your pregnancy decisions remain yours.

Your birth decisions remain yours.

We’ll help you access reliable information, understand your options and communicate openly with your intended parents, but we’ll never expect you to give up your autonomy or make decisions because someone else wants you to.

Healthy surrogacy relationships are built on trust and mutual respect. That includes respecting that the surrogate is the person experiencing the pregnancy and that decisions relating to her body belong to her.

Protecting bodily autonomy isn’t simply one of our values, it’s one of the standards by which we support every journey.

We build community:

Surrogacy is about relationships, and we believe no surrogate should have to navigate her journey without people who understand. From the moment you join, you’ll become part of a welcoming community that you can remain part of for as long as you choose.

One of the things that makes SurrogacyUK different is our community.
When you join, you’re not simply joining an organisation, you’re joining a network of people who understand the unique experiences that surrogacy brings.
You’ll have opportunities to attend surrogate socials, regional meet-ups, workshops, conferences and family events. You’ll be able to connect with experienced surrogates, women who are considering surrogacy and intended parents who share our relationship-led approach.
Many of our members tell us that the friendships they build become one of the most rewarding parts of their membership.
And your place in the community doesn’t end when your journey does.
Whether you undertake one journey, several journeys or none at all, you’re welcome to remain part of SurrogacyUK for as long as it continues to enrich your life.
Because community isn’t just something we offer, it’s who we are

Because community isn’t just something we offer, it’s who we are.

We'll support you in a way that works for you:

Every surrogate is different, so we don’t believe in a one-size-fits-all approach. Whether you want regular contact or simply the reassurance that support is there if you need it, we’ll tailor our support around you.

No two surrogates are the same.

Some women enjoy regular check-ins and attending every event they can.

Others prefer a more independent approach, knowing that experienced support is there whenever they need it.

We believe both approaches are equally valid.

Our role isn’t to take over your journey, it’s to support it.

That might mean helping you understand treatment options, talking through a difficult decision, answering a quick question, introducing you to another surrogate with similar experiences or simply being someone to listen.

You’ll also have access to our dedicated support team, experienced volunteers, educational workshops, resources and a community that understands what you’re experiencing.

We’ll get to know you and provide the support that’s right for you, at the pace that’s right for you.

We prepare. You choose:

We don’t match surrogates with intended parents. Instead, we prepare intended parents before they become part of our community, so you can make your own decisions with confidence.

At SurrogacyUK, we don’t believe anyone can decide who the right intended parents are for you.

Only you can do that.
That’s why we don’t match surrogates with intended parents.

Instead, we focus on preparing intended parents before they begin building friendships within our community.

Every intended parent completes our admissions process and takes part in our Preparing for Surrogacy Course. They spend time learning about our values, the realities of surrogacy, respectful communication, surrogate autonomy and the importance of building genuine relationships.

This means that when you meet intended parents through SurrogacyUK, they’ve already invested time in understanding the journey and the culture of our community.

The relationship is still yours to build.

The decision is still yours to make.

We simply provide a stronger, safer starting point.

The choice is always yours.

We'll never rush you:

Joining SurrogacyUK doesn’t mean you have to become a surrogate. Take your time, ask questions and explore whether surrogacy is right for you. If the answer is no, that’s okay too.

We know that becoming a surrogate is a significant decision.

It’s not one that should ever be rushed.

Some women spend months exploring surrogacy before deciding it’s right for them. Others take years. Some decide that it isn’t the right path at all.

Every one of those outcomes is okay.

Joining SurrogacyUK is not a commitment to undertake a surrogacy journey.

It’s an opportunity to learn.

To ask questions.

To meet experienced surrogates.

To understand what’s involved.

To decide, in your own time, whether surrogacy is right for you.

We’ll never pressure you to undertake a journey.

Instead, we’ll give you the information, support and space to make a decision you feel comfortable with.

Because we believe the best surrogacy journeys begin with someone who has been given the time to make the right decision for themselves.
