Criteria for Surrogates

Age

Surrogates must be a minimum of 21 years old if they already have children.  Childfree applicants must be a minimum of 25 years old. There is no maximum age limit for surrogates, however you must be eligible to be treated by a fertility clinic. Criteria for host surrogacy can differ from clinic to clinic, however some UK clinics are happy to treat surrogates in their mid to late 40s.

Medical Health

Surrogates must be healthy enough to carry a pregnancy. GP reports are obtained during the application process however, if you have a medical condition, please do speak to us as it may not hinder your application.

BMI

Surrogates should have a healthy BMI and be eligible to be treated by a fertility clinic. As such a surrogate’s BMI should ideally be no higher than 35. If you feel your BMI may hinder your application, please speak to us and we can give you more information as to your options.

Residency

Surrogates must be resident in the UK.

How to become a surrogate with Surrogacy UK:

Step One

Submit your online application form (link below) to begin your journey with SurrogacyUK.

Surrogates can join for FREE and we will pay for all checks necessary to process your application.

The application process can take a few weeks but once approved, membership can be granted immediately.

Step Two

Work with the Surrogate Applications Team to gather and submit all necessary documents, including completing your ID verification, online DBS check, and our Health and Wellness Form (link below).

Book onto our surrogate only workshops to build your knowledge about surrogacy, covering all legal, emotional, and practical aspects, and to prepare yourself for the journey ahead.

Engage with the organisation and attend our free social events to enhance your understanding and preparation, and to start becoming a part of our community.

Step Three

When all documents are received, schedule a one-to-one personal consultation with our team to review your application in detail and outline your specific support needs.

This step ensures your readiness and that your expectations align with our understanding of your individual needs as a surrogate.

Once all the above steps are completed you will be made a member of SurrogacyUK, where you’ll continue to build connections, participate in events, and embark on your surrogacy journey.

Our application process is designed to ensure that each applicant is thoroughly prepared and supported, reflecting our commitment to investing in the future success of our members.

We aim to ensure that by the time you become a member, you are not only well-informed and ready for the surrogacy journey but also feel fully supported and confident in the path ahead, fostering the best possible environment for a successful surrogacy experience.
